I am not saying this to prove how Holy or awesome I am b/c I've read it every day, but rather, as an encouragement. You see, when I started all of this, I actually began to look for other passages to supplement this, so I would have sufficient reading material for the goal time which originally was 30 mins a day in the Word and prayer.
What I've realized is that for me, the biggest part of Being Still and Knowing God is prayer. The reason that is the case is b/c I love to read and it comes easily for me. Which is a great thing, but there isn't really anything challenging about reading the Bible and interpreting what I'm suppose to do next.
What is difficult for me? Calling on God and sitting QUIETLY, PATIENTLY and WAITING for an answer. I have mentioned before that I'm a "Doer", so reading the Bible is awesome-you read what it says, and you do it...And if you don't really like what it says, you just pick a passage that has something you can do, and do that instead.
Yea, I know how that sounds, but that's exactly what I've been doing the past few months. I've been choosing what I want God to want me to do. Just think about that sentence for a second...I've been choosing what I want God to want me to do.
You see, I've been flipping through my Bible finding those old comfortable passages about serving others, b/c as a stay-at-home-mom, that's my job, so I can check the whole "selflessly serving God" box for the day, pretend I've been doing exactly what He wants me to do and never really convene with Him or be filled with His spirit in a way that matters. I mean, after all, I am so busy serving that I don't have time to spend with the God I serve.
That sounds so ridiculous when you say it, but it's completely true. I'm not saying serving my family is not what God wants me to do. What I'm getting at is, that is only scratching the surface. God doesn't just want to me to serve Him by serving others, He wants me to know Him. He wants ME. He wants me to have a real relationship with Him. He wants me to pour out my heart to him. He wants me to want to spend time with Him. He wants me to call on Him in joy and sorrow.
He wants ME.
What an amazing thing to think about. And I want Him, so now, in the past 3 days of the 46th Psalm, He is teaching me to be with Him in a way that matters. In a way that calms my heart and fills my soul. In a way that leaves me so full, I am serving from the overflow of His presence, rather than the leftovers of my human misgivings.
I challenge you to embrace God's unmatched pursuit for you. He may have your soul, in that you believe in Him, but does He have your heart, in that you want to be still with Him?
Think about that today as you read and pray the 46th Psalm with me!
Psalm 46
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth.[b] A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
